A Dream Job

After three years as a sixth grade classroom teacher (including a double post as a fifth grade classroom teacher), I just signed a contract on a fabulous gig at an International Baccalaureate school where I'll be challenged to integrate academic subjects with the arts, primarily focusing on dance. I will be teaching all the students in the Primary Years Programme, and it will be my first time as a special subject teacher-so I'm nervous about what my schedule will be like!

The best part is that I'll finally be able to put all my studies and experiences to use, building upon my bachelor's studies in the University of California, Riverside's Dance Department, the theoretical base I received on my way towards my doctorate in Theatre & Performance Studies at Brown University's Department of Theatre, Speech, & Dance (Shout out to Providence!), and my M.Ed. in International Education. I actually think this position will allow me to finally start training in dance therapy, and I hope to convince my future employer to agree, so that I can attend a few intensives at the Brecha Institute in Argentina over the next few years, to build upon my M.A. in Counseling Psychology.

Finally, this job offer comes with the opportunity to teach modern dance classes after school, so I'll be back in the studio! Now I'll have the impetus I need to find my own place to take classes here in Mexico City. Any suggestions?

In this time of extreme economic hardship opportunities like these are so very rare. This is why I want to take a moment, or two, or several strung together into a continuous state of gratitude, and say thank you to the powers that be for having decided that I should receive such a blessing. Thank you, too, to all my friends and fellow teachers for helping make this happen by putting in a good word, and making sure that word was listened to.

Namaste.
